Behind the camera
Who is making these pictures, and why the shadows keep winning.
I chase the hour when light stops being polite — when it narrows to a blade, slides through blinds and shutters, and starts drawing on every surface it finds. Most of these pictures were made within a short walk of my studio in Marseille, because shadow never asks for a plane ticket.
The work stays quiet on purpose. A wall, a passer-by, a stem in a vase: what I am after is the brief geometry between them — the few minutes a shape holds before the sun drags it somewhere else.
